Beaches

The Paparoa Coast is famous for its magnificent, unspoiled wilderness beaches. Many of the beaches within close proximity of the Resort are perfect for jade hunting and beachcombing. The Punakaiki Lagoon at the southern end of the beach provides a great swimming spot on warm summer days.

Paparoa National Park

The Resort is surrounded by 38,000 hectares of the Paparoa National Park. It is a dramatic landscape of towering cliffs and lush rainforests. The famous Nikau palms are abundant here and the Park is home to the highest number of forest birds on the New Zealand mainland. The sheer lushness and spectacular scenery of the park will amaze you.

Pancake Rocks and Blowholes

Punakaiki's top attraction has always been the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. Only 300 metres north of the resort, the rocks and blowholes are an incredible geological formation where stratified limestone that was formed under the sea 30 million years ago has been weathered into extraordinary shapes by wind and waves. The best time to visit the blowholes is at high tide when they are at their most powerful.
